Tell your state lawmakers to pass small donor-funded elections

There's no question that our elections are awash in big money. In Oregon, there are no limits on the amount of money wealthy donors, political action committees, and even corporations can spend on state races.

This means that many qualified people never bother running for office simply because they don't have access to wealthy donors and special interests. And the ones that do run often find they have to spend more time and energy raising money from that small handful of donors, rather than spending time raising money from the vast number of people they seek to represent.

Small donor elections would allow candidates to raise small dollar contributions from the communities they seek to represent and still be able to compete with big-money candidates. Programs like this one have been successful across the country at increasing participation in elections and putting democracy back in the hands of the people.
